The End of the Line

The Future without fish. A very scary documentary about the state of fish world wide.

Final conclusion: we’re at the end of the line especially with large species.

To help: don’t eat endangered species and eat lower on the ocean food chain like anchovies.

I just watched this movie and it got me thinking about my business. What can I do to make my business more environmentally conscious? We already do as much as we can electronically so we don’t use as much paper. For instance, bookkeeping is often about matching one set of data to another. We export one list to a spreadsheet; put both on a wide screen side-by-side, then we can mark the spreadsheet as we match the info to the other program. For an industry known for its paper consumption, we do remarkably well.

What more can we do?

Let’s write a list of our best practices; things small business can do to be more environmentally sound:

  • Send emails, not letters or invoices by mail.
  • Use larger screens so you can work from 2 programs rather than print off one.
  • Have bills sent by email.
  • Create a great filing system so you don’t have to print off emails.
  • Walk to the office.
  • Add your best practices in the comments
